Rough Green Round Belting and Belts
Dura-Belt rough green (also called matte green)
round urethane belts are made from 88A or 90A durometer urethane cord.
The hard, rough surface is textured to provide a lower coefficient
of friction (0.4) so that belts can slip a little in pulleys
without overheating and abrading. Rough green round belting is
also ideal for carrying light items on slider beds or where accumulation occurs. It is not recommended for carrying heavy items because the resultant higher friction will eventually smooth out the rough surface and thereby increase the belt's coefficient of friction.
Rough green urethane cord is often used in paper moving, printing,
and postal applications because the rough surface can catch the
edge of a sheet of paper and push it along.
Rough blue belts and cord are identical to rough green ones, but they are used in food manufacturing plants where blue colored belts are required. Since most foods have are not colored blue, the blue color stands out so it is easily detected if a broken belt should fall on food being processed.
People often think that
the rough textured surface will grip pulleys better and slip
less than smooth belts, but surface contact area is what counts
with urethane belting. The more surface contact, the greater
the coefficient of friction. Therefore, smooth belts will grip
better, but if forced to slip, they tend to overheat and stretch
or abrade. Rough green belting can help overcome this problem.
- Rough surface effectively makes belts more abrasive resistant.
- The urethane material is food grade, but the rough surface may not be FDA approved for some applications.
- Replaces Polycord® belts and belting.
- Available in either rough or matte surface (slightly less rough).
- Available in softer 86A durometer for applications where more grip is desirable.
- Available with polyester cord reinforcement -- for less stretch
and more strength.
- Superior water resistance (hydrolytically stabilized) -- ideal for washdown applications.
